Grants and Awards
Dr. Ruipu Mu, assistant professor of chemistry, received funding from the Louisiana Board of Regents Supervised Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program to conduct research with student Colbee Duke during the 2020-21 academic year. Colbee Duke joined Dr. Mu in his lab to study water samples from a variety of locations in the Shreveport/Bossier area. The locations were sampled at different times to evaluate seasonal variations in heavy metals occurrence in each type of water source.
Presentations and Research
Dr. Mohammad Ali, assistant professor of economics in the Frost School of Business, presented “Are Healthy Kids All Work and No Study? Unpacking the Effect of Current Health on Time Allocation and Cognitive Production in Ethopia” at two conferences. In April 2021, Dr. Ali presented his research at the Southwestern Social Science Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans and the virtual Western Social Science Association Meeting.
Dr. David Kordahl, assistant professor of physics, presented a talk entitled “Cherenkov Excitation of Waveguide Modes in the Electron Microscope” at the 87th annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society (SESAPS) in November 2020.
Dr. Michelle Wolkomir, professor of sociology, presented “Romantic Love: Challenges, Consequences, and Revisions” as part of the Associated Colleges of the South Distinguished Lecture Series on March 9, 2021.
Publications
Dr. Mohammad Ali, assistant professor of economics in the Frost School of Business, was a co-author on “An Economic Perspective on Fiscal Sustainability of U.S. Water Utilities: What We Know and Think We Know” which was published in Water Economics and Policy, January 25, 2021. The article can be accessed here.
Dr. David Kordahl, assistant professor of physics, was an author on “Waveguide modes spatially resolved by low-loss STEM-EELS,” which was published April 12, 2021, in Physical Review B.
Dr. Mark Leeper, assistant professor of political science, was an author on the article “Looking Through the Lens of the Undergrad: The Belief in a Just World and its Effects on Perceptions of Racial Equality.” Journal of Education and Social Policy, Vol 8 (March 201).
Staff Recognition
Rev. Lindy Broderick, chaplain and director of the Christian Leadership Center, was elected Chair of the Order of Deacons for the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Rev. Broderick’s term of service began in November 2020 and runs through June 2024.
